Keeping New Zealand beautiful
Hi my name is Jasper Benincasa I am 14 years old i live on a sailboat. She is a Formosa 56' built in Taiwan in 1982 I attend Bay of Islands College. I enjoy playing guitar and surfing. I believe the biggest problem in 2020 is global warming, carbon emissions and pollution. I think we can cut down on carbon by using solar, wind, dam powered energy. This would hopefully reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere and help stop the destruction of the ozone layer and stop rising sea levels. Also we should try to stop using fossil fuels and start using other things such as electric or hybrid cars. Because carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are rising extremely high we should also think about planting more trees too cause as you should know trees will reduce the carbon dioxide emission levels in the atmosphere.
We should also think about the use of plastic and how plastic is now turning into micro plastics. Which are significantly worse than regular plastic because fish are now ingesting it without even having to eat food. For example whales are filter feeders and when they open up their mouths they're ingesting large amounts of micro-plastics. And whales and other animals are dying at a terrifying rate. And coral is also dying at a horrifying rate 50% of all coral reefs have already died and we could lose another 40% of coral in just another 10 years if we continue at this rate. This is why we need to act fast and stop the destruction of our home because nothing else matters if we don't have a home to live on. And this affects me personally because I have seen dead coral all over the pacific and I have also seen such beautiful, colourful, and pristine reefs. For example I have been to BoraBora, Fakarava, Tahiti and so many other amazing and beautiful places and they have some of the most beautiful reefs and wildlife on the planet and I do not want to see it get destroyed. Thank you for reading my blog.
